Leadership practice:
I started off my freshman year with plenty of goals in mind: getting a lab position, volunteering at a hospital, getting involved in UW, keeping my grades up, and having fun. When the opportunity to help organize a TED Talk at UW came about, I was excited beyond belief. I ended up volunteering on the registration committee, who made the applications for the attendees, read through and accepted people to the event, and organized the registration process for the day of the event. This was a great chance for me to work on a larger scale on a leadership practice. I learned that it takes a large team to plan even the smallest of events, and how crucial communication was between the many commitees. I’m so excited that I am a part of TED because I’m obsessed with every talk I’ve watched. Now, I get to witness one that I helped put on! I’d like to thank my awesome-possum mentor Jack, for encouraging me to try different things and go out of my comfort zone, you rock!! And thanks to UW Leaders for all of the support and good times!
