Leadership Practice:
As a leadership practice I’m working as a volunteer for FIUTS and a committee member of the EAC. In FIUTS I’m a facilitator, meaning I help lead groups of students during events – for example, campus tours, Seattle explorations or longer day trips. I joined FIUTS to continue my engagement in the international community, which I started last year by working in the International Student Programs at Highline Community College. I love meeting new students, especially those from many different backgrounds. It’s extremely exciting to introduce and welcome new students to the UW community, local neighborhoods and the greater Seattle area.
I applied to the EAC in order to gain some experience and insight with the UW student government. Being a new student myself, I thought this would be a great way to understand the governmental structure and the different entities at UW. My experience in the EAC has been extremely fun and educational. The biggest takeaway here is practicing marketing with other motivated students in order to promote elections and educated voting.
