Fun fact: Supanat in Sanskrit means a wise person and Supo coincidentally is a conjugation of “to know” in Spanish. However, according to my middle school French teacher, Supo is a brand of anal medicine in France. Go figure.
Leadership practice:
My leadership project is the Dinealogue (Dining plus Dialogue), which is a small gathering of people of diverse minds, backgrounds, and perspectives. We are a registered student organization that aims to foster a sense of community on the University of Washington campus through hosting monthly Dinealogues, where our team invites a diverse mix of students, professors, alumni, and community members together for an evening of dining and dialogue. Our team consists of Grace Nguyen (a fellow Leader) as a Co-Host, Savannah Ledgerwood (a fellow Leader) as a Co-Host, Chelsa Ayers (my UWL mentor) as a Student Advisor, Tim Tan as a Student Advisor, and myself as the Main Host.
I hosted the first test-run of Dinealogue in March, launched the first official Dinealogue and gathered a team in the beginning of April; we applied for a scholarship and registered as an official RSO in late April; we hosted a variation of the Dinealogue called “Dinealogue Together,” were notified that we did not receive the scholarship, and hosted another variation of the Dinealogue called “Meta-Dinealogue” in the beginning of May. We are currently in the process of planning our last Dinealogue of the year.
In short, we have been busy.
Through my journey with the Dinealogue team, I have learned the value of teamwork. This idea could not have been this successful without the work, support, and dedication of my team. Thank you to Chelsa Ayers, Tim Tan, Savannah Ledgerwood, and Grace Nguyen for believing in this idea; I am forever grateful.
