The Spider’s Web: A Personalized Resource Guide

In this workshop, we focused on resources to build your professional network and explore new opportunities! Our main focus was refining LinkedIn pages, exploring study abroad opportunities, writing cover letters, and asking for letters of recommendation just to name a few! Here are a few takeaways:

  • Networking with people does not have to be informal and stiff– if your are genuine and show interest in a company/ individual, don’t be afraid to reach out and invite that professional on a coffee chat. Ask them about what they do and why they do it– most people are willing to talk about their job and what they do!
  • Study abroad opportunities– believe it or not– might be a wonderful way to meet people and connect! Whether it be abroad or with the people you are studying abroad with, traveling is a common experience that can bring people together and give you invaluable communication skills!
  • Asking for letters of recommendation will be easier if you know your professors and share genuine interest in their work! Ask for letters from professors who actually know you and your work, or even TAs who might know you better!
