Leading Through Identity: Privilege and Allyship

This workshop focused on what it means to be an Ally and how privileges affect our ability to act in these capacities. Being an Ally is something that many claim title to, but it is something that must be acted on everyday that someone claims allyship. Allyship is intentional and actionable.

“Allyship is a lifelong process of building relationships based on trust, consistency, and accountability with marginalized individuals and/or groups of people. Allyship is not self-defined—our work and our efforts must be recognized by the people we seek to ally ourselves with”  (The Anti-Opression Network

In addition, we had a wonderful panel of speakers that shared their insights about what it means to be an ally, their experience with privilege, and how they’ve taken action to empower others.

Here’s a brief powerpoint that captured what we discussed!
