Leadership practice:
Hello everyone! My leadership practice is the Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide awareness, to be held on April 13th in the HUB Lyceum and around campus. I’m working with several other UW students as awell as a national non-profit called the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). I’m involved with this cause not only because I have been personally affected by suicide, but also because I think talking about depression and improving mental health is such an important conversation to be having on a college campus and I want to encourage everyone to be more open about it. I’ve had to practice lots of delegation and trust in fulfilling this leadership practice, and I’ve also had a chance to improve my public speaking skills and confidence. Overall this project has been challenging but so completely and utterly worth it. So many UW Leaders and Mentors have supported me throughout this process and will be walking with me, and I am so grateful for this program!
