WHAT WE DO…

UW Leaders (UWL) is a program of the Associated Students of University of Washington (ASUW) that offers leadership-building opportunities for first, second, and transfer third-year students. Whether students have been involved in past leadership or want to start now, UW Leaders maximizes their leadership potential and welcomes them into a close-knit, meaningful community of accomplished individuals.

The program has three main components:

1. Mentor-mentee relationship:

A large aspect of our program is providing leaders with guidance and friendship during their time in the program and beyond. Towards the beginning of the program, Leaders are paired with a mentor who will act as a resource and point of contact for essentially anything their mentees may need. Our mentor team of 20 student leaders is extremely diverse and talented in terms of academic interests, on and off-campus involvement, and professional ambitions. This creates a dynamic, connected networking and resource hub available to all students in the program. This one-on-one relationship provides a foundation for building strong friendships and lasting mentorship.

2. Leadership Development Workshops:

At each of our weekly meetings, two of our UWL Mentors will facilitate a workshop about relevant topics such as communication styles, dealing with failure, professionalism, personal branding, public speaking and more. These meetings will be held every Wednesday in the HUB from 5:00PM to 7:00PM during winter and spring quarters. Although each workshop is different, workshops consistently incorporate diverse methods to communicate major concepts through things like hands-on activities, guest speakers, small group collaboration and discussion points in order to create a more active and engaging learning environment.

3. Leadership Practice:

From TedxUofW to Husky for Suicide Prevention, past UW Leaders have created projects both individually and on teams that have made a positive impact on our community. With the support and guidance of their mentor, each Leader will design, plan, and execute their own “Leadership Practice” to showcase their skills and act on their passions. We are continuing the tradition to have our leaders present at the Spring Celebration of Service & Leadership so we hope you stop by to see what these rockstars have accomplished when the event arrives!

Applicants should expect to devote 3-4 hours minimum to the program per week for weekly workshops, meeting with their mentor, and miscellaneous events.
