Leadership practice:
My leadership practice has to do with getting involved at the University of Washington. I recently obtained a research position at the South Lake Union UW Medical Center where I will be working on reprogramming stem cells with the long-term goal of finding a cure for prostate cancer. Additionally, I recently joined the Pre-med club Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) where a group of pre-med students meet every other week and organize their thoughts on the pre-medical journey at the University of Washington. The club often features guest speakers such as the Dean of Admissions for the UW Medical School and other alumni from the school. AED presents a lot of great opportunities for furthering my progress in eventually being accepted to medical school.
I just recently started these activities so not much “progress” has been made yet. In the prostate cancer research lab, as a team we have made great progress during the month of April, the details of which cannot be released (yet).
Being a part of UW Leaders has been really helpful in obtaining these positions. Being chosen to work in a research lab as a freshman with no experience is difficult to come by, and I think that the workshops in UW Leaders have helped me obtain this position. While participating in AED and the research lab, I will always keep in mind the mentality presented in UW Leaders that is necessary to succeed. I love UWL!
