Describe your leadership practice:
I am working with the Circle of Friends for Mental Health non-profit organization for my leadership practice. Circle of Friends is a Seattle-based institution that provides a space for individuals with mental illnesses to express themselves through art. Drama, painting, poetry, photography – Circle of Friends welcomes everyone to participate in these phenomenal classes and workshops! My role in the association is to plan Stampede Over Stigma; a series of events that seek to eliminate the stigma surrounding impaired mental wellness. On the Stampede Over Stigma committee, our overarching goal is to abolish the negative stereotypes behind the words “disability” and “mental illness” and foster acceptance within the greater Seattle community. My main leadership takeaway from my six months of volunteer work is to make collaboration a main priority when working on a team. If you want to make a difference, you simply can’t do it alone! Our first event is going to be held on June 15! It is a 5k that will take place in Magnuson Park and we encourage anyone who is interested in participating to come out and walk with friends and family.
