(2013-2014 Mentor) Ben Zipkin

Ben Zipkin

Hello Internet – my name is Ben. I hail from Burlingame, CA, a small suburb south of San Francisco. I’m involved with several different organizations in and around the UW campus, including Rainy Dawg Radio, the Campus Visit Program, the Kaeberlein Laboratory, and of course, UW Leaders. When time permits, I like to watch uncomfortably bad comedy videos, giggle at them, and then practice non-sequiturs. Bacon. I also follow several Bay Area-based athletic organizations (Go Giants) and listen to jazz music. I first became involved with this program at the turn of my sophomore year after having had an incredibly difficult time acclimating to university life as a freshman. This organization fundamentally changed the way that I live my life as a student and as a member of this institution – the love I have for this program is fierce, and as such I highly recommend it to all students who hunger for campus involvement. By far the most rewarding element that this program aims to develop is the community and network of all involved participants. The concentration of highly motivated, diverse, and passionate students we come to interact with on a weekly basis makes UW Leaders one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever been a part of. Many people have asked me since first committing to this group why it matters to me, and what elements of the program have projected meaning onto my university trajectory; the community fostered by this program is one I believe in wholeheartedly, one that I can give to and rely on, and one that I hope sticks around this campus for a long, long time. I’m looking forward to a rich and fulfilling year.
