Mentor Andrew Arakaki, 2016-2017

Andrew

Hello, friends! My name is Andrew (which you already knew because you clicked on my picture) and I’m a senior majoring in General Biology with a minor in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. I have been with the UW Leaders program for my entire time at UW, starting as a Leader my freshman year, serving as the Assistant Director as a sophomore, and joining the team as a Mentor for the past two years. Clearly, this program is extremely important to me and I am so excited to work with this next cohort of Leaders! Currently I am working as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Buckley Lab working on ecological and physiological forecasting in changing climates (it’s really interesting, I promise). Outside of the lab, you can find me showing potential new students and their families around UW as a Tour Guide with the Office of Admissions, working with the Husky Leadership Initiative as a Teaching Assistant in their Leadership Seminar, or in the Rainy Dawg Radio studio on Thursday nights where I do a weekly talk show!

Outside of Biology and Leadership, I also have a vast knowledge of early-2000s music (primarily Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, and Kelly Clarkson), the dynamics of constructing a perfect brunch, and all things written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. If you’re ever looking for someone who will eat a #fire eggs benedict with you while listening to the latest episode of Throwing Shade or 2 Dope Queens, I am always IN.
